so about that Superfamily thing

UNPOPULAR OPINION????? oh no I never post those

It really bothers me and not in like a HOW DARE YOU HAVE FUN WAY but just the way it really tramples all over the character of Peter Parker?? Literally rewriting everything about his entire character and history and everything that makes him who he is, the reasons he’s a hero, the reasons he’s good, etc etc. just for the purpose of squeezing him into some preset role. It actually takes a character who is pretty fundamentally defined by his issues with father figures and rewrites his history to give him two apparently flawless dads?? So like why is he even a superhero at this point??

I know that’s probably taking it WAY TOO SERIOUSLY and it’s not meant to be offensive or even read into that much, but let’s be real, if people started a thing in which Loki was a star football player people would probably be a bit irked by it.

That said I DO get why people do it, Spidey idolizes the other Avengers and is younger than them, but like…….. HE IS NOT JUST SOME KID, and just stuffing him into the “kid” role really negates everything that makes him an awesome character.

He is a full-fledged character with his own tragic past and his own reasons for becoming a screwed up superhero. He’s on the same level as Tony and Steve, so seeing him reduced to baby Stark-Rogers instead gets kind of grating after the 9732498734 time.

I’m not trying to spread hate here, I just wanted to explain why I and a few others are really not into the superfamily thing, so maybe people could kind of get why?? I’ve gotten requests for superfamily fanart before and I’ve just been quietly ignoring them, but now that the new Spidey movie is out the superfamily thing is in swing again. Again, this isn’t me judging people who love superfamily, do what makes you happy!! I just wanted to share one perspective from the other side of the fence, so maybe people could appreciate why it’s not for everyone.

edit: OH YEAH reminded by comments - Aunt May is AMAZING and she and Uncle Ben made Peter the man he is so erasing them from his history makes me sad OK I think that mostly covers it
