What tablet do you use?
I usually use a Cintiq 12WX, sometimes an ASUS Eee Slate.
What program do you use to draw?
My favorite one is Paint Tool SAI, especially for sketching. Otherwise I use Photoshop for editing/touching up things.
What brushes/tools do you use in SAI?
I use the default pen tool a lot, usually on a thicker setting for the gesture/rough sketch, then a finer setting for lines. Shading is usually a mix of the pen tool on a super fat setting and the watercolor brush if I want a more realistic/detailed or soft look. If I want a “sketchier” looking digital sketch I use the crayon tool and play with the canvas texture options.
Did you go to art school?
Nope, I wish I had though! I think I would’ve learned more discipline. I have done self-taught courses online via videos of lectures, Schoolism, etc. I’m also slowly building a little library of lesson and resource books.
How long have you been drawing?
Forever! There were a few stale periods in college, though - was a pain in the butt to catch up afterwards. “Draw constantly” is definitely the best art advice that you’ll ever get.
Do you have any tutorials/can you make a tutorial?
I have one on how I study people’s faces in order to draw them recognizably in my own style under a tutorial tag here. I can’t promise anything, but if you have any requests for tutorials, feel free to send them my way!
